Objective To understand the birth status of babies born to HIV-positive mothers and to provide theoretical basis for the development of more scientific HIV-positive pregnant women during pregnancy and childbirth. Methods The data of births of all infants born in HIV-positive maternal areas in Liuzhou from 2009 to 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. The birth weight, birth length, the incidence of premature infants, the incidence of low birth weight and the incidence of birth defects were compared with WHO standards or Liuzhou Regional average for comparison. Results A total of 265 infants born in HIV-positive mothers from 2009 to 2013 in Liuzhou district had a mean birth weight of (2.83 ± 0.44) kg and an average length of 49.35 ± 2.15 cm. The average birth weight was (2.86 ± 0.40) kg in 127 infants and the average birth weight was (2.79 ± 0.47) kg. The birth weights of male and female infants born to HIV-positive mothers were both compared with WHO standards There was a statistically significant difference (P <0.05). The average length of births of male and female babies were (49.59 ± 1.87) cm and (49.09 ± 2.40) cm, respectively. There was no significant difference in the birth length between male and female babies born to HIV-positive mothers and the WHO standard (P> 0.05 ). The incidence of premature infants born to HIV-positive mothers in Liuzhou was 11.70%, the incidence of low birth weight was 16.98%, and the incidence of birth defects was 22.64 ‰, all higher than the overall indicators of Liuzhou. Conclusion The birth of infants born to HIV-positive mothers is not sufficient. Strengthening the maternal health care for HIV-positive pregnant women will promote the healthy birth of infants born to HIV-positive mothers.
