Hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) is involved in the process of proliferation, apoptosis, invasion and metastasis of tumor by regulating the transcriptional activity of different target genes and its own expression. The overexpression of HIF-1α is related to the poor prognosis of malignant tumors. Epithelial / mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a very important role in tumor invasion and metastasis. Its mechanism involves complex signaling pathway, E-cadherin, Snail transcription factor and microRNA. This article reviews the role and significance of the two in oncology.
