The glittering Olympic shock wave is casting a brand-new shape to the ancient city of Beijing. For more than half a century, Beijing’s urban spatial development model may turn into a turning point for the construction of Olympic venues. In the midst of the global economic downturn, Beijing’s investment of 280 billion yuan to prepare for hosting the Olympic Games has become particularly sought after, and urban policymakers have considered more about how such huge investments will change people’s lives. Everything is changing, though sometimes quietly. But people walking on Beijing Street have been able to feel that the Olympic Games have really come.
