This paper discusses direct radio frequency measurement techniques based on their testing of long-haul transmission lines, such as microwave transmission lines for heavy-duty microwave relay systems or microwave transmission lines for high-power radar systems. Reflected wave loss profiles are introduced, a measure of the mass of the transmission path. The test results are given, including data obtained by means of measurement techniques that determine the operating characteristics of the transmission line during operation.
