邓小平同志在“三个面向”:面向现代化、现向世界、面向未来中特别强调教育要面向未来,这是对教育功能的重要概括。因为基础教育的任务是要为未来社会培养人才。因此,现代教学观要求教师在教学活动中由教师的教转向学生的学。即遵循现代教学观:发挥学生的主体作用和教师的主导作用。这就要求教师要着眼于培养学生不断学习、不断探索、不断创新的能力,以适应不断变化的世界。
