This study investigated the effects of zinc deficiency on natural killer (NK) cell activity in aged mice. The experimental mice were divided into three groups: zinc deficiency group (1.3 μg/g zinc), zinc deficiency fed control group (58 μg/g zinc) and zinc supplemented control group (58 μg/g zinc). After 4 weeks of feeding, the food intake and body weight of the zinc deficiency group were significantly lower than that of the zinc control group (P<0.01). The weight of zinc deficiency control group also decreased in the control group, but there was no obvious zinc deficiency group; zinc zinc and NK in the zinc deficiency group. The activity of cells was significantly lower than that of the two control groups (P<0.01). There was no significant difference between the control group and the control group with zinc supplementation (P>0.05). The results also showed that there was a positive correlation between plasma zinc and NK cell activity in the three groups. It is believed that zinc deficiency can significantly impair the activity of NK cells in aged mice, and this damage can be prevented by appropriate zinc supplementation.
