由北京太平天国历史研究会和南京市史学会联合举办的太平天国史学术讨论会,于1979年5月25日至6月2日在南京举行。这是解放三十年来,史学方面规模最大的一次全国性学术讨论会。参加这次讨论会的有来自全国各高等院校、科研单位、文博和出版单位的史学工作者以及业余太平天国史研究者共二百六十人。来自英国、澳大利亚、比利时、西德、日本、美国、加拿大七个国家的十位从事太平天国史研究的外国学者和在南京大学就读的十六位外国留学生,也参加了这次讨论会。会议收到各种专题论文共二百十七篇(其中包括外国学者的论文七篇)。讨论会的开幕式由北京太平天国历史研究会会长、人民大学清史研究所副所长戴逸同志致开
The Taiping Heavenly History Symposium, jointly held by the Beijing Taiping Heavenly History Research Institute and the Nanjing Historical Society, was held in Nanjing from May 25 to June 2, 1979. This is the nation’s largest academic seminar in the history of the three decades since liberation. A total of two hundred and sixty scholars, including historians from various institutions of higher learning, research institutes, cultural publications and publishing units in the country and amateur history of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, participated in the symposium. Ten foreign scholars engaged in the study of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and 16 foreign students enrolled at Nanjing University from seven countries including Britain, Australia, Belgium, West Germany, Japan, the United States and Canada attended this seminar. The conference received a total of 217 thematic papers (including seven by foreign scholars). The opening ceremony of the symposium was opened by President Dai Yi, the president of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Historical Research Association and the deputy director of the Qing History Research Institute of Renmin University
