吐鲁番县位于吐鲁番盆地中部,全境面积10300平方公里,其中96％为山地、戈壁、风蚀沙地。现有耕地35万亩,全县七个公社,一个园艺场,居住着以维吾尔为主,汉、回、蒙等兄弟民族169000人。 吐鲁番素以“火洲”、“风库”闻名,高温、干旱、大风繁多是这一地区的主要气候特点,年平均温度14。0℃,气温在40℃以上的日数达40天,极端高温度47.6℃。极端地表温度达76.6℃相对湿度日平均低于30％的达140天,并多次出现“零”的记录。年降水量平均为16.6毫米。蒸发量达3200毫米,为降水量的192倍。
