Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and significance of blood pressure variability (BPV) and heart rate variability (HRV) in offspring of patients with essential hypertension (EH). Methods: Forty-two patients with EH family history underwent ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and Holter monitoring, and 45 EH patients without family history of EH as control group. Results: The mean systolic blood pressure (BPV), mean systolic blood pressure (24 h), mean diastolic blood pressure (24 h), mean pressure at 24 h and standard deviations were all significantly higher in the offspring of EH patients than those in the control group (P <0.01). Conclusion: There was significant difference between EH patients with offspring of EH and BPH patients with EH without EH family history. This group of people in the active control of blood pressure at the same time pay attention to improve BPV and HRV, to reduce complications, target organ damage may have some significance.
