The 2012 Johnson Controls Energy Efficiency Indicator was released at the 23rd North American Energy Efficiency Forum in Washington. The survey is the sixth in the world and more than 3,500 homeowners and operators of construction equipment are covered this year. The survey was conducted jointly by the Johnson Controls Institute for Building Efficiency, the International Association of Facilities Management and the Institute of Land and Resources. The survey shows that in the United States, nearly 75% of commercial buildings have been in service for more than 20 years and energy efficiency needs to be improved urgently.
