周臣,明代画家。生年不详,主要生活在成化至嘉靖年间,卒于明世宗嘉靖十四年(1535年)。字舜卿,号东村,江苏吴县(今苏州)人。善画山水、人物、花鸟,早年随同郡陈暹学画,山水上溯两宋诸家,规摹李成、郭熙、李唐、马远、夏圭,深得李唐、刘松年神髓,笔法严整,构图稳健。周臣在艺术上取得了杰出的成就,画史认为他可与“浙派”领袖戴进并肩。“吴门四家”中的唐寅、仇英亦曾向其学画,其画风对唐寅、仇英绘画格调的形成产生了深远的影响。
