南香山莲花书院,始建于明嘉靖年间,由时任南京吏、兵、礼三部尚书的湛若水筹建。修复重建南香山莲花书院,是深入挖掘历史文化资源,弘扬中华民族优秀传统文化,加强历史文物古迹保护利用,大力发展生态旅游,促进增城经济繁荣发展的重大举措。在书院选址、规划设计以及后期的运行管理方面,要紧密结合时代特征,融入新的内涵,整合各种资源,最终将书院所在的南香山打造成集人文历史研究、文化艺术活动和自然生态观光为一体的旅游度假区。
