Historicaly, Tibet in southwest China was an important gateway and hub of trade and cultural exchanges between China and South Asian countries. However, the cross-border trade gradualy dwindled to Tibetan livestock products, agricultural products such as rice, tea and byproducts, and other commodi-ties like silk, ceramics, spices and handicraft items.
