Background: Concussion is a common pathological type of football, but there are plenty of misunderstandings about it by players and managers. To eliminate these misunderstandings and reduce the potential consequences of concussion, it is imperative to have effective educational interventions. Appropriate interventions, the need to investigate the players understanding of concussion knowledge status and attitude. This study aims to assess the knowledge and attitude of English professional football players about concussion. METHODS: The study was conducted on 26 players in a Champions League club using a combination of Rosenbaum Consensus and Attitudes Questionnaire (RoCKAS) and semi-structured interviews. RoCKAS includes independent knowledge points (0-25) and attitude points (15-75). Semi-structured interviews include issues related to concussion knowledge, attitude and behavior. Results: The mean score of knowledge and attitude in RoCKAS were 16.4 ± 2.9 (11-22) and 59.6 ± 8.5 (41-71), respectively. Subsequent interviews confirmed that players’ RoCKAS scores did not exactly match their behavioral intentions, confirming their misconceptions about concussions and pointed out the existing barriers to concussion reporting. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study show that Champions League players have moderate levels of concussion knowledge and safety in answering paper questionnaires, as well as good concussion-based symptom recognition; however, many respondents, despite their awareness of semi-structured interviewing To the potential risk of concussion is still unsafe behavior. In addition, this study also identified a number of related reports of concussion disorders, including the perceived severity of injury, game conditions, player replacement rules. These results can help shape the foundations of educational intervention and hopefully improve concussion reporting among professional footballers.
