The authors studied the movement of boron within Norfolk loamy sand and the absorption of boron by soybeans. The results showed that boron increased linearly in soybean leaf tissue with a linear decrease in yield. Gypsum application does not reduce boron toxicity or affect boron movement. There was a linear correlation between the accumulated precipitation and the hot water soluble boron lost to the AP layer and the hot water soluble boron accumulated on the BA and BtL layers. Over a period of 393 days, 85% of the loss of boron in the AP layer accumulates on the BA and BtL layers. Indicating that during the first year after application of boron, boron applied may not be completely lost from the root zone of the old soils, even though the difference between boron applied to the AP layer and hot-water-soluble boron not treated with boron is small.
