如皋县部分高沙土地区,土沙、地高、沟河水位低,种植水稻因水源不足,产量不高不稳。为了充分开发当地的光热资源,近几年推广小麦——春玉米——芋旱三熟制,取得较好的经济效益。长庄乡1985年种植这一熟制1250亩,平均亩产小麦220公斤、春玉米320公斤、芋2000多公斤。一年三熟除亩产500多公斤粮食外,增加经济收入500多元,还多收1000多公斤青饲料。
