Researchers at Hercules in Wilmington, Delaware, have discovered a new method, the laser, that allows liquid crystal molecules to be aligned on the substrate surface. LCD liquid crystal molecules in the substrate surface preferred orientation of a typical method, known as the mechanical friction method. A cloth wheel is usually used to rub the surface of the polymer film attached to a conductive electrode glass substrate to align the liquid crystal molecules in the direction of their rubbing motion as they contact the polymer surface.
