The microstructures of A1-7075 in T6,CgS3 and T73 tempers have been investigatedusing transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the effect of microstructures on theyieht strength and stress-corrosion resistance (SCR) have been discussed.It is shownthat the type,size and density of matrix precipitates are predominant factors of the ef-fect on mechanical properties of the alloy.The A1-7075 in CgS3 temper shows anoptimum combination of yield strenghth and SCR,which is attributed to the increasedtendency of dislocations by-passing particles of matrix precipitates.In this condition themajority of matrix precipitates are plate-shaped particles of η transition phase withabout 5×10~(16)/cm~3 in volume density and 5-7 nm in size.
