汉画像石上的几何形边饰,是规律性极强的一种艺术形式,它是以追求平面化、单纯化、稳定感、夸张性、韵律感和理想化作为塑造形象的基本规律和方法。汉画像石的几何形边饰在其整体艺术成分中占有很大的比重,它们与画像一起,组成了相得益彰的画面效果。汉画像石艺术在形象塑造方面,追求以神写形、形神兼备。汉画像石中几何形边饰的使用,使画像石艺术更加灵活、生动,更富有整体性,也使其表现了更趋完美的艺术效果。
