Since the 1970s, with the increasingly prominent shortcomings and malpractices of liberal democracy, there has been a boom in the revival of participatory democracy in the West, in which Barbour’s theory of strong democracy attracts much attention. The theory of strong democracy that fully embodies democracy and participation is also influenced by the theory and practice of trust. Through empirical investigation of several urban and rural communities in Nanjing, this study conducts an empirical analysis of the impact of the general trust and special trust on the practice of strong community democracy and attempts to analyze and reflect on the reasons for the deep trust that slows the growth of strong democracy in communities It is hoped that some feasible data support and suggestions can be provided for the real picture that the powerful democrats in the community go from illusory democratization to democracy.
