记得在几年前,记者曾是 email to pager 服务的一名用户,汉显寻呼机上会显示新到达电子邮件的主题、发件人等基本信息。但在试用了大约一个月后,我毅然地停掉了这项服务,原因是一个朋友为了测试这个功能连发了200封邮件给我,致使我的寻呼机瘫痪。而在那时,我实际上已成为了统一消息服务的尝鲜者。笼统地讲,统一消息系统(UMS)是指将采用不同传输途径、不同传输介质、不同接收设备的信息集中到统一的平台上处理,这个平台一般指基于 IP 的平台,涉及的信息种类可包括传真、电子邮件、语音邮件、寻呼消息、短信等等。前述的那个例子可以说是一项最“简陋”的统一消息服务,UMS 的功能如今不再局限于简单的两项服务关联,它与用户需求之间也一直在寻找最为契合的关系。

Broadly speaking, UMS refers to the use of different transmission channels, different transmission media, different receiving devices centralized information to a unified platform to deal with, the platform generally refers to the IP-based platform, the types of information involved may include Fax, email, voice mail, pager messages, text messages, and more. The aforementioned example is arguably the most “unobtrusive” Unified Messaging service. UMS features are no longer confined to simple two service associations, and they are always looking for the best fit between user needs.
