我县地处鄂南,属于亚热带季风气候,阳光充足,雨量充沛,土质肥沃,是小麦生产老区.但由于生产技术落后,以致产量很低.历史上亩产最高的1979年为111.5公斤,仍低于同年全省平均水平150.5公斤.经调查分析,认为我县小麦低产的原因,除了春雨过多造成渍害以及栽培粗放外,最主要的是播期太迟,播种时间拉得长.
