October 10, 2007 The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the current year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry to the German chemist Gerhard Ertl for his painstaking work in understanding how gas is chemically active on solid surfaces Reaction, and thus contribute to the development of modern surface chemistry. Etter was born on October 10, 1936 in the city of Stuttgart in southwestern Germany, received a doctorate from Munich University of Technology in 1965, professor and director of the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the University of Hannover in 1968, successively at the University of California, from 1976 to 1982 As a visiting professor, returned to Berlin as the Max Planck Institute Fritz Haber Institute director, retired in 2004 as an honorary retired professor.
