本刊86年7期专论认为,电视剧《新星》好则好矣,但还存在“某些严重不足”,就是;“李向南改革成功的最终原因不是别的,而是省委书记的一句话。”并且作者反对“该剧对门第特权的颂扬……从而贬低人民的力量和作用”。 《星》剧对特权的描写是颂扬吗? 《星》剧的主要矛盾是旧势力与新势力(顾荣与李向南)间的矛盾,这是主要来自官方的压力,即“权”的阴影,李的改革是不能不考虑这个因素的。李是怎样克服这个困难的呢?仍由“权”来解决,以毒攻毒。这就更深刻地揭露了当前社会官僚集权的弊端——要改革就不得不考虑这个本来不必要考虑的因素;同时又揭露了中国历来的民族性:怕官。

At the same time, we have exposed the traditional national character of China: fear of officialdom.
