《瘗鹤铭》摩崖石刻,原在镇江焦山西崖滨水的石壁上,不知何年崩裂落入江中。千多年来,那几块历劫沧桑的断崖,不知岁月的百数十残字,自北宋重现人间以来,其书法即以惊世的艺术魅力,为历代书家们奉为经典。但此铭的撰者及书者既未署真名,亦不记年号,甚至未能留下一篇完整的铭文文本。清代打捞出水,今存残石五块。(图一)
