In February 2014, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a report detailing its findings on whether it supports the use of fly ash in concrete and FGD gypsum in gypsum plasterboard. The conclusions of the “Report” are as follows: - Concrete mixed with coal combustion residue (CCR) fly ash, gypsum plasterboard incorporating flue gas desulphurization gypsum, which is released to the environment during use The amount of potential interest component (COPC) was found to be about the same as or slightly lower than the uncoated concrete or gypsum product, below the relevant regulations and standards based on human and biological health. - Environmental and economic benefits when using environmentally friendly coal combustion residues are significant, including reducing landfills, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing the use of virgin natural resources, creating jobs and reducing product costs and increase income.
