The MAF study of chemical residues in fresh unwashed fruits and vegetables showed that the majority of growers applied pesticides as recommended. Pesticide residues found in the survey did not cause food and health concerns. The annual Food Residue Monitoring Program (FRSP) focuses mainly on locally produced and imported crops that are more prone to pesticide residues. The maximum residue is used to determine whether the grower is following Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). The key crops examined in New Zealand in 2011 are asparagus, eggplant, bakers, hops, lemon, olive oil, persimmon, pumpkin, onion, sweet corn, tomato and walnut. A total of 352 submitted to the sample for chemical testing.
