巫山县历史悠久,山川秀丽,名胜古迹众多。奇峰秀峦的长江画廊——巫峡,令游客叹为观止,蜚声海内外。风光迷人的“小三峡”、人间仙境“小小三峡”,更是以其风景秀丽,山势陡峭,竹木葱笼,猿声阵阵,水清滩险驰名中外,被誉为“中华奇观”、“天下绝景”。巫山小三峡1982年经国务院批准对外开放以来,共接待了包括美国、英国、日本、德国、法国、韩国、澳大利亚、新加坡、马来西亚、香港、台湾等30多个国家和地区的海内外游客364.2万人次,创社会效益3.642亿元、每年以30％的速度递增。旅游势头一年比一年旺,一年比一年兴,1986年被评为“全国十大风景名胜区”。1991年,长江三峡、巫山小三峡双双荣获“中国旅游胜地四十佳”称
