有一个外国的汉学家曾经说过:“汉语……具有一个几乎是取之不尽,用之不竭的表现方式的宝库,可以描绘任何最细致的感情色彩,常常有些词语,在欧洲语文的翻译中好像都是一些同义词,但在汉语原文中却很容易把它们区别开来。”外国语言学家从语言的对比研究中发现汉语是伟大的语言宝库。我们科技翻译工作者成天回旋于“宝库”内外,如能勤奋谨慎,刻苦钻研,一定能从祖国语言中吸取更多的养料,提高自己的语言表达能力,减少文字差错。汉语水平的高低,直接影响到翻译工作的效率和质量。因此,科技翻译工作者除了要努力熟谙相关的外语外,必须加强汉语素养。其目的主要在于:
