Xibe Woman Becomes Doctor Wu Xuehua is the first woman of the Xibe nationality in China to become a doctor. She now does research work at the Physics Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Born into an ordinary Xibe family in Yumin County in Xinjiang, Wu had not studied from a formal textbook until her third year of primary school. Relying on hard work and intelligence, she later enrolled in college where she obtained both a master’s and doctorate degree at China Scientific and Technological University.
