白寿彝先生离我们而去两年了 ,全国学术文化界和回族人民 ,对白先生怀着深深的思念。 1 999年 4月 2 6日 ,北京师范大学为著名历史学家白寿彝教授九十华诞暨由他总主编的多卷本《中国通史》全部出版 ,举行了隆重的庆祝。中共中央总书记、国家主席江泽民、全国人大常委会委员长李鹏、全国政协主席李瑞环、国务院副总理李岚清、全国人大常委会副委员长许嘉璐、全国政协副主席、中央统战部部长王兆国、教育部部长陈至立分别致信、致电或以其他方式 ,向白寿彝教授表示祝贺。本刊 1 999年第 4期登载了江泽民同志的贺信 ,本期再将其他领导同志的贺信、贺电一并刊出。这充分表示了党和国家对学者的关爱 ,对学术文化的重视 ,这是中华文运昌盛的征兆
Mr. Bai Shouyi has been away from us for two years. National academic and cultural communities and the Hui people cherish deep thoughts about Mr. Bai. On April 26, 1999, Beijing Normal University held a grand celebration for Professor Bai Shouyi, the famous historian, on the occasion of his 90th birthday and the multi-volume “General History of China” edited by his chief editor. General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, State President Jiang Zemin, NPC Standing Committee Chairman Li Peng, Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Li Ruihuan, State Council Vice Premier Li Lanqing, NPC Vice Chairman Xu Jialu, CPPCC Vice Chairman Wang Zhongguo, Minister of the United Front Work Department, Minister of Education Chen Zhili sent a letter to each of them, calling or otherwise congratulating Professor Bai Shouyi. In the fourth issue of 1999, we published a congratulation letter by Comrade Jiang Zemin, which we then printed together with congratulatory letters and congratulatory messages from other leading comrades. This fully expresses the party’s and state’s concern for scholars and its emphasis on academic culture, which is a sign of the prosperity of the Chinese language
