海底地震仪的铺设将有助于日本的地震预报

在日本千叶、房总半岛近海延伸约110公里的海底地震仪的铺设工程即将竣工。这项通过电缆进行日常监视的海底地震仪铺设工程,是继东海海域之后的世界第二个,也是日本气象厅直接观测“地震巢”的“大听诊器”。1985年9月10日试行连接,很快就检测出父岛近海的地震。进入正式使用后,可期待收到更大效益,除了能对预报关东大地震的再次袭击(即预料可能发生的沿相模海沟的巨大地震)
