书法是和汉字息息相关的,但并不是说从有汉字开始就有了书法艺术。换言之,书法史不等于汉文字史。文字是表达语言的工具。尽管汉字一开始就具有了象形美、构成美的特征,成为后来形成书法艺术的重要方面,但仍不过是画出来的小图画、小图案式的文字而已,是表意表音的符号,是语言表达的工具,这一状况包括小篆文字。
Calligraphy is closely related to Chinese characters, but it does not mean that there is calligraphy art from the beginning of Chinese characters.
