Due to environmental protection, high speed and energy efficiency requirements, Shinkansen vehicles must continue to carry out significant light-weight work. As vehicle structural measures have largely failed to meet the above requirements, the adoption of new raw materials is imperative for further weight reduction. In this context, the “non-flammable” combustion test certified magnesium alloy extruded profiles (Test No.: 15-189K burning test) is expected to be popular as a new structure of railway vehicle structures. Targeting the application of this material in railway vehicles, Japan has 10 institutes and enterprises working together to carry out non-combustible magnesium alloy in the casting process, extrusion, stamping, deep drawing, welding, surface treatment and other aspects of the study. Through the integration of these existing technologies, we developed the components for railway vehicles and evaluated the performance (including 4 items including seats, partition doors, luggage racks and window frames). This article describes the development of such seats for vehicles.
