继1993年我国首次在太平洋发现鳗鲡自然孵化场重大线索后,历时两年,国家海洋局第一海洋研究所对采到的80粒鳗鲡鱼卵进行分析鉴定,确认其中19粒是日本鳗鲡卵,其产卵场位于马里亚纳群岛西侧,北赤道流北侧边缘海域。 自本世纪以来,国外众多学者对鳗鲡产卵场进行过多次调查,日本更不惜为此耗消巨资,但迄今未见过成功的报导。我国自1984-1993年,在东海黑潮区、日本黑潮区、北赤道海流区、西北太平洋海域等进行15个航次的调查,总航程79,500海里,经1008个测站取样,终于1993年3月采集到鳗鲡鱼卵。首次发现鳗鲡产卵场。 这一重要发现,对保护、开发利用鳗鲡资源,具有重要意义。
