开篇生活的实践告诉我们:“艺术与科学相连的亲属关系能提高两者的地位;科学能够给美提供主要的根据是科学的光荣;美能够把最高的结构建设在真理上是美的光荣。”通常科学的方法为找出基本原因及规律,用正确的公式及抽象的字句加以表现,艺术的方法则是以大众易于感受的方法,即那诉之于理智,又诉之于最普通的人的感官与感情的方法。而这两种方法都是人类在其生存空间里,关心自身所依赖的永久的及基本的原因的产物。
