In the late fifties, Le Tourneau, Inc. of the United States first adopted hydro-pneumatic suspension on the “Haupak” dump truck with a capacity of 20-29 tons. This oil and gas suspension was later adopted in the larger tonnage “Haupak” series. In 1969, the company produced six models of two-axle dumpers with oil and gas suspension with a payload of 31.8 to 109.3 tons. The Cathay Pacific Oil and Gas Company has adopted Cat-769B with a capacity of 31.8 tons, Caterpillar-779 with two-axle with a capacity of 77.1 tons and a three-axle dump with a capacity of 91 tons of Cat-783 Suspension. Some other U.S. companies that produce large tonnage open-pit dump trucks have also abandoned the traditional leaf spring suspension and adopted oil and gas suspensions. For example, on a Michigan T-65 dump truck with a capacity of 59 tons, an oil and gas suspension will be installed in the future.
