杂种优势现象在生物界广泛存在,十九世纪初人们通过科学实践,开始认识不同类型的植物杂交后,子代常比亲代生长良好。杂种优势的早期研究,主要在玉米上进行,此后逐渐采用杂交种子的有高粱、甜菜、番茄、黄瓜、南瓜、洋葱、茄子、甘兰等作物,目前杂交种子的应用已成为农业上一项重要增产措施。今后杂交种子的利用,必将在我国农业生产上发挥越来越大的作用。但是目前在应用杂种优势现象方面,还有一系列实际的与理论的问题
