除了人对死亡天生具有的恐惧外,我最害怕的是平庸和无望。当以各种手段来谋生的尝试失败后,在外地一座简陋的楼栈里,我再次阅读了梵高传记《渴望生活》。这本被我翻皱发黄的书,似乎隐藏着一种契机,像古代经书一样,将平淡无奇的道理描述得如此透彻。它使我懂得:世上根本就不存在轰轰烈烈,更没有称心如意可言,一切奢望都是徒劳。人活着,首先得干事,日复一日,年复一年。那么,无论怎样平淡的日子也会烁烁生辉,就象梵高的《象日葵》一样。
Except for those people who are born with the fear of death, what I fear most are mediocrity and hopelessness. After a failed attempt to make a living by various means, I again read Van Gogh’s biography, “Life-Longing,” in a shabby store in the field. This book, which I have crumpled and yellowed, seems to hide an opportunity that, like the ancient classics, describes the bland truths so thoroughly. It made me understand that the world is simply not spectacular, yet less desirable, and all desperation is in vain. People live, first of all officers, day after day, year after year. So, no matter how dull days will also shine, like Van Gogh’s “sunflower” the same.
