克举的艺术种子来自故乡。他早岁即已发蒙,后来得沐改革之春风而受到专业教育,依托“山艺”的怀抱,不久就以一个乡土画家的年轻姿态脱颖而出,成为上世纪八九十年代间山东油画界涌现的劲旅中的新秀。然后,在两个世纪之交,当国内艺术新潮竞起时,他进入了一段困境,正所谓“独上高楼,望尽天涯路”那样的探索状态。他一面勤于教学,一面努力进修。重要的是,正是在这种困境状态的探索中,孕育着他悄自变法的契机。这尚在济南时已见端倪,而在去鲁调京后渐有声色,终于以一种创新的油画风景而崭露头角,令人刮目相看了。
