共产党员的吃亏精神,概括地说就是:凡是有利于党和人民利益的事情,党员要带头去做,并努力做好;凡是不利于党和人民利益的事情,党员要带头抵制,坚决不做,并与之斗争。共产党员的吃亏精神主要表现在:战争年代,冲锋在前,退却在后,吃苦在前,享受在后;社会主义建设时期,坚持党和人民的利益高于一切,个人利益服从党和人民的利益,多讲奉献,少讲索取,甘为孺子牛的精神。共产党员的甘愿吃亏精神是我们党全面建成小康社会、加快推进中国特色社会主义建设的精神动力。
