相较于国外媒体描绘的“电子书将呈爆炸式增长”的未来前景,电子书产业在中国发展之快也令人刮目。截至2004年9月,全国共出版发行正版eBook超过10万种,其中2004年的新书占了较大比例；以新浪读书、中文电子书网、6688为代表的15家中文网站开展电子书业务；超过100万册eBook被下载阅读。新闻出版总署音像电子和网络出版管理司副司长寇晓伟认为,目前我国的网络出版已经开始进入产业化发展阶段,开具备了一定的产业规模。
Compared to the foreign media portrayal of “e-book will be explosive growth,” the future prospects of e-book industry in China is also impressive development. As of September 2004, a total of more than 100,000 genuine eBooks were published and distributed across the country, with a large proportion of new books in 2004; 15 Chinese websites represented by Sina Reader, Chinese eBook Network and 6688; Over 1 million eBooks have been downloaded for reading. Kou Xiaowei, deputy director of audio-visual electronic and network publishing administration of Press and Publication Administration believes that at present our country’s network publishing has begun to enter the stage of industrialization development, with a certain industrial scale.
