The concept of base-isolation has been for nearly a century since it was patented by the English doctor in 909 with the talc layer separating the structure from the underlying foundation. However, the extensive research and practice of base-isolation projects is only a matter of nearly ten years. At present, people are paying more and more attention to this area. The U.S. Earthquake Engineering Society also established a special structural seismic isolation committee and drafted a provisional draft bill for the design of seismic isolation projects. Japan is building a series of buildings designed with different isolation measures.
