In 1997, a total of 51,000 graduate students were enrolled in the country, and the number of applicants was as high as 242,000, which is the highest record in history. It was 17% higher than in 1996 and doubled from 1994. It is expected that the number of applicants will be higher in the next three years. It will continue to show an upward trend. From the data provided by the sample survey of candidates in 1996 and 1997, it can be seen that the scores of the candidates’ English papers were very low in 1996, and most of the candidates’ scores were below 50 points, and there were almost no scores above 80 points. In the 1997 exam, the number of candidates with a score of 41-60 still accounted for 63%, not a lot of passing. Now I would like to focus on analyzing some of the candidates’ appearances in English-Chinese translations and give candidates some positive suggestions. Since the reform of the question type in 1994, the English to Chinese score has accounted for 15% of the total score. After participating in the two-year examination, I feel that the following points should cause the examinee to pay enough attention to: 1. The English-Chinese translations in 1994-1997 are generally grammatical structures that are simpler than before. The translated sentences are mostly simple compound sentences or parallel compounds.
