指印譯自西文編目術語Fingerprint,在西文古籍編目中有百餘年的發展史,是從古代印刷文獻規定部位提取的一組字符組成的編碼,是古籍編目中確定古籍版印的一種有效工具,是古籍特定版印的身份標記,可以作爲古籍的國際標準書號(ISBN)。指印在我國古籍編目中尚無應用,相關研究亦未開展,可謂新事物。本文初步探討了指印在我國古籍編目的應用前景、意義以及指印設計有可能面臨的問題。
