Chiang Kai-shek’s secret “peace talks” in Hong Kong and Macao in 1940, and the Japanese code-named “Tong work,” also known as “Song Ziliang line.” This “peace talks” lasted for almost a year under the condition of absolute secrets and was a prominent incident in the “peace talks” between Japan and Chiang Kai-shek during the war of resistance against Japan. This article intends to make a brief discussion on this issue. During the war of resistance against Japan, Japan had never stopped its political entrapment against Chiang Kai-shek while perishing China and conquered by force. In 1940, the entrapment activity peaked because of its implementation of the Tong Work Plan. The reason why Japan took the initiative to launch the “Tong work” to lure Chiang Kai-shek was closely linked with the international and domestic situations Japan was facing at the time.
