Founded in 1963 at Ohio State University, The Disaster Research Center is the first of its kind in the world and the only one in the United States. The center engages in various sociological studies on how groups and agencies respond to a wide range of social emergencies, especially those related to natural and technological disasters. Since its inception, it has completed 410 studies on different topics. The center’s task force visited the quake-hit areas of Japan, Chile, Yugoslavia, Italy, Iran, El Salvador, Greece, the United States, California and Alaska and the cyclone affected by the hurricanes in southern and eastern United States and Japan
