该项目是工业厂房建筑改建为公共租住房屋(以下简称公屋)的成功案例。为加快增加房屋供应,香港特区行政长官在2012年8月30日提出了十项短、中期房屋及土地供应措施。其中一项为改建香港房屋委员会(以下简称房委会)柴湾工厂邨大厦为出租公屋。这个决定不但可以在短期内增加市区出租公屋单位的供应量,以配合单身人士和小家庭对公屋的需求,亦同时响应了地区人士要求房委会保留全港最后一座H型工厂大厦的强烈要求。
The project is a success story of the conversion of industrial buildings into public rental housing (PRH). To speed up the supply of housing, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR proposed ten short-term and medium-term housing and land supply measures on 30 August 2012. One of them is the rented public housing for the redevelopment of the Hong Kong Housing Authority (hereinafter referred to as the HA) Chai Wan Factory Village Complex. This decision will not only increase the supply of public rental housing units in urban areas in the short term so as to meet the demand for public housing from singletons and small families, but also respond to requests from local residents to retain the last H-shaped factory building in Hong Kong Strong demand.
