Proposed by Mr. Wang Daohan, the “Conference on Ecological, Cultural and Regional Economic Development in the Yangtze River Delta” was held in Shanghai from November 12 to November 14, 1998 and was attended by five provinces and municipalities including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Beijing and Hubei 55 experts and scholars attended the meeting. Mr. Wang Daohan attended the meeting and made an important statement. The meeting held discussions and exchanges on the historical succession of the regional culture in the Yangtze River Delta and its ecological mechanism, the structure of ecological environment and regional development, the integration of urbanization in the delta and the 21st century. Participants believe that: the cultural superiority of the Yangtze River Delta is rooted in the ecological environment, and the development of the delta needs to be established
