张大力1963年1月生于黑龙江省哈尔滨市,1983年考入中央工艺美术学院书藉装帧艺术系,1987年毕业。他没有服从分配,而是留在了北京,租住在圆明园外西苑附近,成为“圆明园画家村”第一批村民,在没有任何经济来源的情况下从事艺术创作和研究。早期的张大力画水墨画,画了很多年现代形式的传统水墨。1992年,他开始认识到用现代的手法包装传统是不成功的,“每一个时代都有自己的东西,脱离时代就行不通。”1989年张大力移居意大利。1992年开始进行《对话》系列(著名的涂鸦作品“大脑袋”)的创作。1995年回北京定居,成立了自己的工作室,并把著名的《对话》系列带到了北京和上海,引起艺术界和社会的广泛关注。2001至2002年,张大力用两年的时间完成了另一个艺术项目——《一百个中国人》。
Zhang Dali 1963 January was born in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, admitted to the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts in 1983 book binding art department, graduated in 1987. Instead of obeying the distribution, he stayed in Beijing and rented it in the neighborhood of Yuanmingyuan near Xiyuan to become the first group of villagers in “Yuanmingyuan painter village” to engage in artistic creation and research without any financial resources. In the early Zhang drew heavily on ink and wash paintings, he painted traditional forms of traditional Chinese ink for many years. In 1992, he began to realize that it was unsuccessful to pack traditions in a modern way. “Every era has its own thing, and it will not work without the age.” Zhang Dali moved to Italy in 1989. In 1992, the series “Conversation” (the famous “big brain” of the graffiti) started. Returning to Beijing in 1995, he set up his own studio and brought the famous “Dialogue” series to Beijing and Shanghai, arousing widespread concern in the art world and in society. From 2001 to 2002, Zhang Dali spent another two years completing another art project, “One Hundred Chinese.”
